Valve has released a new beta software update for the Steam Deck that brings the system’s graphics drivers up to Mesa 23.1 and enables ray tracing in Doom Eternal. The update also fixes graphical corruption issues in some titles and improves performance in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

The announcement was made by Steam Deck developer Pierre-Loup Griffais, who shared a screenshot of the Steam Deck running Doom Eternal with ray tracing effects enabled. According to the performance overlay, the game was running at 35 frames per second with the feature turned on.

Griffais also revealed that the team is working on enabling DirectX Raytracing on the Steam Deck, but it will likely take more time to develop due to the limited hardware on the system. Doom Eternal was likely chosen for ray tracing because of its well-optimized performance across a wide range of hardware.

While it is currently unknown which other games will support ray tracing on the Steam Deck, future updates will likely enable the feature for more titles. Steam Deck’s continued development and improvement showcase Valve’s commitment to providing the best possible gaming experience on the device.

Overall, the addition of ray tracing support to the Steam Deck is a significant development that will allow players to enjoy more immersive and visually stunning games on the go. It will be interesting to see how other games perform with ray tracing enabled on the device and how the Steam Deck’s hardware and software continue to evolve in the future.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now fully optimized for the Steam Deck, according to CD Projekt RED. The company confirmed on Twitter that the open-world action RPG is Steam Deck Verified, meaning it’s ready to run on Valve’s portable gaming PC.

Players who already own a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 in their Steam library can now take it with them on the go. The Steam Deck compatibility is good news for fans of the game who want to continue their Night City adventures outside of their home.

Despite launching with major issues, Cyberpunk 2077 has still been a massive commercial success. CD Projekt RED is continuing to work on the game, with a full-fledged expansion in development and plans for a “Game of the Year Edition.” The studio is also establishing a new studio in Boston to work on the sequel.

Details on the expansion, titled Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, are currently scarce, but CD Projekt RED has said that it has the biggest budget any expansion has ever had in the studio’s history. It is expected to release later this year. Once Phantom Liberty is out, CD Projekt RED will also release a “Game of the Year Edition” for the title.

The Steam Deck compatibility is the latest development in CD Projekt RED’s efforts to make Cyberpunk 2077 more accessible to players. The company has faced criticism over the game’s technical issues and other problems since its launch in December 2020. However, it appears that CD Projekt RED is committed to improving the game and providing more content for players to enjoy.

In addition to the expansion and “Game of the Year Edition,” CD Projekt RED is also working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The new studio in Boston will lead the project, with production set to begin soon. It remains to be seen what new features and improvements the sequel will bring, but fans of the franchise are likely to be excited about the prospect of continuing their Night City adventures in the future.

Overall, the Steam Deck compatibility is a positive development for Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s good to see CD Projekt RED making efforts to improve the game and provide more content for players. Whether you’re a fan of the game or just interested in the gaming industry, it’s worth keeping an eye on the future developments for Cyberpunk 2077.

As we know from before, the handheld gaming device has the power to sustain top-notch games and entertain gamers on the move. Steam Deck is considered an all-in-one portable PC gaming solution, including all Steam Games and features, accessible from wherever you are.

All customers will have 72 hours time span to confirm their purchase before the reservation is released to the next person in the queue. Furthermore, press units will also be sent to the media for reviews, with the embargo lifting on February 25.

Valve also posted additional details regarding the launch of Steam Deck:

  • We will start sending invites shortly after 10:00 am on February 25, PST
  • Order emails are sent in the same order that reservations were made.
  • You can only order the Steam Deck model that you originally reserved.
  • Your reservation deposit will be applied to the final price of Steam Deck, and shipping costs are included.

For those unfamiliar with it, Steam Deck is supposed to run games on a different operating system, even if considered for a portable PC gaming device. It has a new and improved version of SteamOS, and it comes with Proton, which allows games to run with any additional effort or porting set by developers. Proton is here to make sure game compatibility does not become an issue and provide anti-cheat solutions by working directly with vendors.

Are you tired of hackers swarming your games up? Well, speaking on Valve’s upcoming Steam Deck handheld mini PC device, you shouldn’t worry that much about them, as Steam Deck will support both Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye. While EAC is my favorite thanks to its intrusion, BattlEye will also try to assert presence by battling against cheaters trying to take advantage however they can.

Both BattlEye and Easy Anti-Cheat will offer their services to worried customers using the Steam Deck worldwide. BattlEye is known for its presence in games like Rainbow Six Siege, Escape From Tarkov, PUBG, DayZ, and other games, while Easy Anti-Cheat and its effectiveness can be seen in games such as Apex Legends, Squad, Fortnite, and others.

Thanks to Epic Games, Easy Anti-Cheat has also become available to developers for free. The most recent update confirmed a support extension to Linux and Mac, which also supports Wine and Proton compatibility layers on Linux. According to many communities, Easy Anti-Cheat is considered one of the most successful combatants against cheaters.

BattlEye has confirmed that it provides native Linux and Mac support and has recently announced that it will support Steam Deck and its compatibility layer, Proton. Proton is a compatibility layer that allows Windows games to be run on Linux by using a modified version of Wine.

What we know about Steam Deck so far is considered a minor overview of the handheld gaming device by Valve. But, today, there’s more to look at, as an unnamed Chinese person who has access to the Steam Deck has decided to record a video and put it on Reddit.

The new video revealing the Steam Deck UI comes from an unnamed Chinese developer who may have struck the NDA set by Valve.

Previously, Paven Djundik, the creator of SteamDB, has revealed that the Steam Deck UI is the desktop library with a slight reformation of things. He also claimed that the UI has already been shown in official images and press coverage so there’s not much to be found here. The UI is still a work in progress, and the screenshots were taken on Windows, not on the Deck hardware.

Steam Deck will run games on a different operating system, even if considered for a portable PC gaming device. It has a new and improved version of SteamOS, and it comes with Proton, which allows games to run with any additional effort or porting put by developers. Proton is here to make sure game compatibilities do not become an issue and provide anti-cheat solutions by working directly with vendors.

Steam Deck starts shipping December 2021 to the United States, Canada, European Union, and the United Kingdom, while 2022 will be the year to expand its presence in multiple other regions. The reservations for Steam Deck will be open on July 16 at 1 PM ET, and it starts at $399, $529, and $649, based on the different models.

Valve has just announced Steam Deck, the handheld gaming device with power ready to sustain top-notch games and entertain gamers on the move. Steam Deck is considered an all-in-one portable PC gaming solution, including all of the Steam Games and features, accessible from wherever you are.

Steam Deck will run games on a different operating system, even if considered for a portable PC gaming device. It has a new and improved version of SteamOS, and it comes with Proton, which allows games to run with any additional effort or porting put by developers. Proton is here to make sure game compatibilities do not become an issue and provide support for anti-cheat solutions by working directly with vendors.

Some of the Steam Deck’s features can be found below:

7″ touchscreen

  • Type and swipe through the Steam UI with Deck’s capacitive multi-touch display.

Trackpads

  • Play PC games that were never designed to be handheld. With increased precision and customizability, trackpads also give you a competitive edge when playing fast paced FPS games.

Gyro

  • With an IMU and capacitive touch thumbsticks on-board, Deck helps you aim better. By physically positioning the device you can achieve more precision than using a thumbstick or trackpad alone.

Fast storage

  • Get the built-in storage you need: 64GB eMMC, 256GB NVMe SSD (faster), or 512GB NVMe SSD (fastest). If you’re looking for more space, augment your built-in storage with a microSD card and fill it up with even more games.

Hi-Fi audio

  • Steam Deck’s stereo speakers pack a punch. An embedded DSP provides clarity and a wide soundstage for an immersive listening experience. Connect your favorite headset, or use the onboard dual microphones to chat with your friends.

40Wh battery

  • Steam Deck’s onboard 40 watt-hour battery provides several hours of play time for most games. For lighter use cases like game streaming, smaller 2D games, or web browsing, you can expect to get the maximum battery life of approximately 7-8 hours.

Expandable I/O

  • The single USB-C jack is multi-purpose: used for charging, peripherals, or even throwing the game onto a big screen at the same time. Any USB-C hub can be used to expand your options, or get our official dock when it is released. More info on the dock below.

Wireless

  • WiFi keeps you connected to the world, and Bluetooth allows for a wide variety of wireless peripherals – from controllers to headsets, keyboards, and mice.

Fast Suspend / Resume

  • We’ve built a quick suspend / resume feature into SteamOS. Press the power button, and Steam Deck will suspend your game and go into sleep mode. Push the power button again and it will wake up right where you left off.
